How many GO Transit lines serve Hamilton?
Hamilton is served by the Lakeshore West Line on two branches — a Hunter Street branch terminating at Hamilton GO Centre, and a James Street North / Confederation branch terminating at West Harbour GO and Confederation GO. Since October 27, 2025 the Confederation branch continues to Niagara Falls, giving Hamilton a direct Union Station ↔ Niagara Falls rail connection through its own downtown.

Confederation GO officially opened on October 27, 2025 at the QEW and Centennial Parkway North on Hamilton's east side. The station launched with 13 weekday and 15 weekend train trips on the Lakeshore West Line, providing direct service to Union Station in Toronto and continuing to Niagara Falls.
What is GO Expansion and how does it affect Hamilton?
GO Expansion is the province of Ontario's programme to convert the GO rail network from a peak-oriented commuter service into a metro-style regional rail system. For Hamilton it means two-way, all-day service every 15 minutes on the Lakeshore West Line, delivered through corridor electrification, new sidings and grade separations. When complete, downtown Toronto becomes a predictable ~45–60 minute trip at any hour of the day, seven days a week.
What does Lakeshore West electrification mean?
Electrification is the installation of overhead catenary wire and electric-multiple-unit trains along the Lakeshore West corridor. It replaces diesel locomotives with faster, quieter, cleaner electric trains capable of metro-style acceleration between closely spaced stops — the physical prerequisite for 15-minute two-way, all-day service.
How close is Design District Condos to a GO station?
Design District Condos at 41 Wilson St W is approximately a six-minute walk from both Hamilton GO Centre and West Harbour GO. Confederation GO is a short HSR bus ride east, and will be linked via the future Hamilton LRT. This is one of the only new-build condo sites in the province within walking distance of two GO rail stations.
How long is the train from Hamilton to Toronto Union Station?
Today, GO trains from West Harbour and Hamilton GO Centre reach Union Station in approximately 55–65 minutes. Under GO Expansion — with electrification, corridor upgrades and 15-minute service — end-to-end travel times on Lakeshore West are expected to shorten and, more importantly, become bi-directional and available all day rather than concentrated at rush hour.
